Experience Ultimate Luxury: Take a Look Inside the Superyacht Propelled by a Giant Kit

Superyachts are wasteful no matter how you look at it, but there are benefits to making even the most extravagant transportation options greener. For one German businessman, that entails ordering a futuristic yacht with a novel approach to efficiency—a massive kite that propels it.

Red Yacht Design, Dijkstra Naval Architects, and the unnamed German businessman who is commissioning it worked together to create Ice Kite, which is still in the design phase. The roughly 210-foot vessel uses a massive 1,700-square-foot kite to increase fuel efficiency and has two diesel engines. Think of kiteboarding as being much bigger, fancier, and more expensive.

Ice Kite will also have all the standard superyacht features, including multiple decks, a pool, a sun deck, a few lounges, numerous bedrooms, and two bars.

A support vessel called Ice Ghost, which will trail the main yacht and transport a variety of toys like a plane, jet skis, and other boats, has also been ordered by the unidentified buyer.

Below, take a closer look at Ice Kite and its younger sibling, which Robb Report first brought to our attention.

Meet Ice Kite, a modern superyacht with an unusual source of power.

The unusual ship, which is still in the design phase, will be propelled by two diesel engines and a massive kite.

The 1,700 square foot kite, which rises 600 feet in the air, improves the motor efficiency of the 210-foot vessel.

Red Yacht Design, a company that worked on the yacht’s development, claims that the hull’s thin, low-resistance construction of aluminium and carbon fibre increases the vessel’s fuel efficiency.

The greenest course of action might be to avoid owning a superyacht altogether. However, the German businessman who ordered Ice Kite does at least intend to allow multiple owners.

Passengers will have panoramic views thanks to the yacht’s design’s abundance of glass, and they will be able to observe the kite’s flight from inside as well.

The Kite Lounge is a space that serves as both a dining area and a lounge.

The main deck has a bar and a 12-seat dining area outside.

… and a pool.

There is a large lounge area with multiple levels for sunbathing by the pool.

The upper deck, which is a few stairs up from the main deck and has a grilling station and a full-size bar, is located there.

… a hot tub …

… and a “party lounge” area with sectional couches.

10 guest bedrooms are available on Ice Kite, and the owner’s cabin includes a sitting area, an office, a bathroom and a private entrance to the main deck.

Additionally, Ice Kite has a helipad “to address the issue of last mile.” It will also be constructed alongside the Ice Ghost, a complementary support vessel, because sometimes a single enormous yacht isn’t enough.

All of the owner’s toys, including jet skis, additional boats and an aeroplane, will be transported on the 86-foot support yacht. The deck can be used as a sizable gathering place once all of the vehicles have taken off.

Two guest cabins, a kitchen, and a garage for diving gear will all be located below deck on Ice Ghost. Although they are still in the design stages, the future owner of both boats is thinking about having them built in a Dutch shipyard.
