In Dubai, people consider owning "exotic pets" (roughly translated: strange pets) such as leopards, tigers, brocade cats... as a way to flaunt money and power. This hobby only stopped when the law banning the keeping of wild animals as pets officially took effect from January 2017. Anyone found to have a wild animal as a pet will be fined $136,000. The animals people once owned will have to return to the government. Photo: CNN.
