Inter Miami wants to set up a friendly match against Barcelona so that Lionel Messi can have a “proper farewell” with the team he played for previously before joining Inter Miami.

Messi was a player with Barcelona for 17 years, from 2004 until 2021, during which time he made over 700 appearances for the team, scored over 650 goals, and won a myriad of trophies. During his time with Barcelona, Messi won a multitude of titles. Messi announced his retirement in 2021.

During his stint with the club, he has won seven Copa del Reys. Additionally, he was a member of Barcelona at the time that he won six of his seven Ballon d’Or medals.

However, he left the club two years ago and was overcome with emotion when he said his goodbyes to his coworkers and friends. This was owing to the fact that the club was having financial difficulties that had nothing to do with the field of play, and they were no longer able to pay for his wage.

Jorge Mas, the owner of Inter Miami, has expressed his hope that his new star would be able to patch things up with the team he played for previously so that he may go out on a positive note. The desire was communicated to Major League Soccer.
