The match between Inter Miami and Orlando City in the round of 32 of the Leagues Cup was set to begin at eight o’clock in the evening on Wednesday.
Warmups were underway at DRV PNK Stadium 45 minutes before the game was supposed to begin, and Messi and his Inter Miami colleagues were there to participate. After another roughly 20 minutes, the torrential downpours started.
Messi and his teammates returned for a second round of pre-game warm-ups once the stadium personnel had drained the water pools that had accumulated around the midfield area.
Since joining the MLS club, Messi has competed in two League Cup matches, neither of which were affected by adverse weather conditions. In the match against Cruz Azul, he scored the game-winning goal, and in the match against Atlanta United, he scored two more goals.
