Only a few days after Jaylen Brown signed the most lucrative contract in NBA history, it was Anthony Davis’ turn to make an equally heinous milestone with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Anthony Davis, a forward for the Los Angeles Lakers, has agreed to a new three-year contract extension worth $186 million. He will continue to play for the Lakers until 2028 because he still has two years left on his previous contract.
Davis, along with LeBron James, is a key member of the 2020 NBA championship team, which advanced to the Western Conference finals last season. Last season, he averaged 26 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
AD was named to the All-NBA First Team four times. He has five seasons of 25 points and two blocks, which is just one less than Shaquille O’Neal and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Davis became the third Lakers player to have 50 blocks in a postseason series in the 2023 Playoffs, trailing only O’Neal and Abdul-Jabbar.
The 30-year-old joined the Lakers from the New Orleans Pelicans in a blockbuster deal in 2019 and, along with James, helped the Lakers win the NBA title in 2020.
Davis’ contract extension bridges the gap between the end of LeBron James’ career and the future of the Purple Gold team. James is in his twenty-first season and has a player option for the 2024-2025 season.
Anthony Davis isn’t the first name to be mentioned in connection with the Lakers this summer. They have extended contracts with Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, and Austin Reaves through 2025.
