Sporting Lisbon have honored Cristiano Ronaldo with their new third shirt

After 20 years since the club moved to the Jose Alvalade Stadium, Sporting Lisbon has announced their third shirt for the 2023–24 season, with the motif paying tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo appeared on the new Sporting Lisbon shirt

Sporting Lisbon relocated to a new stadium close to the old one in 2003 after spending over 50 years at the former stadium bearing its founder’s name. The home team played host to MU in the inaugural game played at the new stadium. At the time, the club had just won the Premier League.

The game commemorates 20 years since an 18-year-old Ronaldo inspired Sporting to victory over Man United in the first game held at the Estadio Jose Alvalade

In that preseason friendly, 18-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo made his professional debut with an outstanding effort that helped Sporting Lisbon win 3-1. The opportunity to join the Red Devils was made possible through this competition, and the rest is history.
