Alisher Usmanov, a Russian billionaire who has been through hell and back, is making a return despite the fact that he no longer owns a superyacht. In May, the Frankfurt Regional Court ruled that the police illegally searched his megayacht and other assets. The court ruled that the first accusation of money laundering was completely without merit. Usmanov, the sanctioned oligarch, was also being looked into for possible breaches of tax laws and penalties.
However, the reasons that led the investigators to accuse Usmanov of money laundering remain unclear. According to Spiegel, the judges were not pleased when they learned that the investigators had relied on a YouTube video featuring Russian opposition figure Alexej Navalny to support their claims. The tycoon’s answer was to launch a constitutional case in Germany, where he now resides. He sued the Munich court system in front of Germany’s Federal Constitutional Court because he believed they had breached his right to privacy in his own house. Usmanov further claimed that these intrusions violated the fundamental law of the inviolability of the house. The handling of the Dilbar megayacht was in direct contravention of the fact that it is a magnificent superyacht and, as such, a protected residence.
Welt shed light on a 67-page constitutional lawsuit defending Usmanov’s luxury boat Dilbar in the Bremen harbor and homes in Bavaria on Lake Tegernsee from a search warrant executed as part of an inquiry into allegations of tax cheating. After missing his megayacht Dilbar for nearly a year, he will surely go for broke when he finally gets back on the water. Accusations that Usmanov broke the Foreign Trade Law are met with an outright denial of support for the Russian state.
Several properties on Lake Tegernsee were searched by officers from the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and the tax investigators. On September 23rd, 2022, they discovered four replicas of Faberge eggs valued tens of thousands of dollars. On November 8th, 2022, they raided a home in Frankfurt and the Dilbar at the port of Bremen, seizing rare artwork worth a total of $5 million.
Now that he’s tasted triumph, the millionaire plans to turn the tables and put the blame on the investigators. This little glimmer of hope might one day lead to him regaining possession of the formidable megayacht Dilbar.
