With Tom Brady in attendance, Patriots slip further away from standard he set

Mass.’s FOXBOROUGH — The Standard is present throughout Gillette Stadium, from the six gleaming Lombardi Trophies that greet you as soon as you exit the elevator into the team’s business offices, to the New England Patriots Hall of Fame that is located just outside the stadium’s main entrance, to the enormous banners that hang in the south end zone and serve as a constant reminder of the team’s half-dozen Super Bowl victories in just 17 years.

The physical incarnation of The Standard, Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr., was present on Sunday to be honored for the memories, victories, and sometimes-seeming miracles he helped create.

Even though it has been some time since his last game with the Patriots, supporters still recognize everything about Brady and remember many of the things he did while playing for the team. Brady unzipped a navy blue windbreaker to reveal his now-iconic No. 12 jersey as the opening notes of his signature warm-up entry song, Jay Z’s “Public Service Announcement,” started to play. He then did what he always did when he ran onto the field for the first time at his home stadium, screaming “let’s [expletive] go!” and pumping his beard.
