Liverpool faces the risk of losing Egypt international Mohamed Salah in the upcoming transfer windows due to interest from Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad.
17-year-old Ben Doak, who has been earmarked as a potential successor to Mohamed Salah at Liverpool, showcased his skills for Scotland’s U21 team in a dazzling performance on Monday. Despite Scotland’s 1-0 loss to Spain in Jaen, Andalusia, Doak’s contribution was noteworthy. While he didn’t find the net, the Liverpool youngster’s display left his manager, Scot Gemmill, praising his “exceptional performance” and evident talent.
Doak’s inclusion in Scotland’s U21 squad at such a young age underscores his potential. Regarded as one of Liverpool’s most promising prospects, he appears ready to contribute to the senior team this season, having made appearances in all four of Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League matchday squads.
Doak’s emergence offers reassurance to Liverpool fans concerned about the potential departure of Mohamed Salah. The 31-year-old Egyptian forward is a target for Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad and may face another substantial transfer bid in January. Although Liverpool rejected a £150 million offer from Al-Ittihad before the summer transfer window closed, they could consider a future bid.
Should Salah leave, Liverpool may face a void in their attacking lineup, but Doak appears eager to step into his shoes. The Scottish talent joined Liverpool from Celtic in March 2022 and made his first-team debut last November at the age of 16. Gemmill, encouraged by Doak’s progress, expressed a desire for the young forward to receive more playing time at Liverpool.
Regarding Doak’s potential inclusion in Scotland’s senior squad, manager Steve Clarke mentioned that the youngster’s performance at his club was noteworthy. Clarke also acknowledged the possibility of Doak’s future involvement with the senior national team.
Jurgen Klopp’s admiration for Doak is evident in the young talent’s inclusion in matchday squads. Following Doak’s goal during a pre-season friendly in July, Klopp praised the young players at Liverpool, singling out Doak for his exciting contributions.
