Liverpool is preparing for their Premier League match against Wolves this Saturday, but there is concern about an injury crisis at Anfield, as six key players were notably absent from Thursday’s training session.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Thiago Alcantara, Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister, Stefan Bajcetic, and Luis Diaz were not seen with the rest of the squad during their pre-match preparations at the AXA Training Centre.
Mac Allister, Bajcetic, and Diaz are likely being rested due to the quick turnaround following their international duties, and there are no reported fitness concerns for this trio. However, the remaining three absentees have been dealing with recent injuries.
Nunez was substituted at halftime during Uruguay’s 2-1 loss to Ecuador due to “muscular difficulties,” according to head coach Marcelo Bielsa. Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold is still struggling with a hamstring issue that forced him out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for games against Ukraine and Scotland.
Thiago continues to be sidelined with a long-term hip injury that required surgery, and his recovery process has experienced a setback, extending his expected time out of action. Jurgen Klopp recently revealed this setback, expressing disappointment in the delay in Thiago’s return to full fitness.
While Thiago’s absence continues, there is some positive news with the return of Ibrahima Konate, who is expected to be available for selection against Wolves. This is especially important as Joe Gomez may need to fill in for the injured Alexander-Arnold at right-back. Curtis Jones has also resumed full first-team training, providing a boost to Liverpool’s squad depth.
