Jurgen Klopp Sees Ryan Gravenberch as Liverpool’s Future Fabinho Successor
Jurgen Klopp believes Ryan Gravenberch has the potential to be Liverpool’s long-term replacement for Fabinho in the defensive midfielder role. The Liverpool manager also dismissed concerns about Gravenberch’s challenging year at Bayern Munich, describing it as a normal part of his development as a young player joining a big club at the age of 20.
Gravenberch, a Netherlands international, joined Liverpool on transfer deadline day for a fee that could reach £40 million. During his season at Bayern Munich, he made only a few starts in his 34 appearances and played just nine minutes in the current season.
Klopp praised Gravenberch’s skills and versatility, stating that while he may not fit the traditional No. 6 position, football’s positional dynamics have evolved over the years. He emphasized Gravenberch’s potential as a No. 6 in the future and pointed out that players like Curtis Jones have transitioned successfully to that role with time and experience.
The Liverpool manager noted that the challenges Gravenberch faced at Bayern Munich were part of a normal player’s career, even at the highest levels. He highlighted that Gravenberch had played for a strong team like Bayern Munich, and his experience there was not a low point but rather a regular step in his career development.
