The publication 90min compiled a list of the finest teams in the world, and it included Messi, Haaland, and Mbappe among its top players.
On September 14, 90min newspaper announced the current best squad in the world, including a series of notable names. Below is a specific list of these 11 names.
Goalkeeper: Alisson Becker
As a result of Alisson’s less-than-stellar performance during the 2022-2023 season with Liverpool, many people were taken aback when the goalkeeper position was announced by 90min. Alisson was forced to take a seat on the bench for Brazil’s previous two matches in order to make room for his teammate Ederson.
On the other hand, seasoned Jack Gallagher praises Alisson for his consistency. Alisson has been a winner of the Yashin award for the best goalkeeper in France Football’s competitions on two separate occasions since the award’s inception.
Right-back: Kyle Walker
Walker has earned his place at the table in every way. The player, who is now 33 years old, helped Man City win a historic treble in the previous campaign. Walker’s combination of speed, strength, and precision has helped him become one of the top defenders in the world at this moment. Walker recently extended his contract with Manchester City to run until the year 2026.
Center back: John Stones
90min highly appreciates Man City’s defense and John Stones is the next name on the list. Having had a period of ups and downs in form, the Stones have gradually found themselves again. Last season, Stones was a mainstay in Man City’s European championship squad. In many matches, he was even pushed to the midfield but still completed his duties well.
Center back: Ruben Dias
Leaving behind the 2022 World Cup, without much success with the Portuguese team, Dias flourished in the Man City shirt. Pep often shuffles positions in defense, but Dias is almost guaranteed a spot if his physical condition is good.
Left-back: Alphonso Davies
90min selected Bayern’s Davies on the list because “there are not many bright names for this position besides Davies”. Last season, Davies played a total of 38 matches for Germany’s No. 1 team, pocketing 3 goals and 8 assists.
Midfielder: Kevin De Bruyne
After his outstanding play with Man City during the previous campaign, De Bruyne has earned a spot on our list without question. The analysts agree that the Belgian footballer has a good chance of finishing in the top three of this year’s Golden Ball competition. Unfortunately, De Bruyne had an injury in the previous month, and it is expected that he will be out for the remainder of the year.
Midfielder: Rodri
Rodri scored the decisive goal in the final to help Man City win the Champions League last season. The Spanish player was then also voted the best player of the tournament. Every time he steps on the field, Rodri always makes fans feel secure, being comprehensive in both defense and attack.
Midfielder: Jude Bellingham
Bellingham is one of the most in-form players in the world at the moment. The 20-year-old player scored 5 goals in 4 matches since moving to Real for more than 100 million euros. In his last appearance for England, Bellingham tormented the Scottish defense and contributed 1 goal and 1 assist.
Striker: Lionel Messi
Messi is the only player on this list who is no longer playing in Europe. However, joining Inter Miami does not mean that Messi is out of time. Sharing the reason for choosing Messi, 90min newspaper wrote briefly: “He is simply the greatest player of all time, even at the age of 36, the magic is still the same on his feet.”
Striker: Erling Haaland
Even though Ronaldo has a remarkable scoring record in the Al Nassr shirt, the Portuguese player still does not appear on the list because the world’s attackers have many excellent names. Haaland is one of these. Last season, the 23-year-old striker scored 52 goals for Man City. That alone is enough to reserve a spot for the Norwegian player.
Striker: Kylian Mbappe
Mbappe is only 24 years old but is already a pillar of the France team and PSG club. In the last 5 seasons, Mbappe has scored at least 30 goals. Many experts predict that Mbappe, along with Haaland, will become the next superstars of football after the Ronaldo – Messi era ends.
