Behold, the enormous megamansion in Los Angeles that is often considered to be the largest contemporary residence in the United States.

The auction held the previous year brought in a total of $126 million for the property, which is known as The One Bel Air.

Between the dates of February 28 and March 3, 2022, it was offered for sale via Sotheby’s Concierge Auctions.

Nile Niami, a film producer turned real estate developer, is the one responsible for developing this property, which took a full decade to complete.

The property, which is 10 years in the making, comes from film producer-turned-real estate developer Nile Niami.

Niami initially hoped to sell it for a whopping $500 million, which would have made it one of the most expensive homes in the world.

 

However, the construction of the house was plagued with many setbacks, which led to additional expenses and delays. It was initially put into a court-ordered receivership in 2021 and then filed into bankruptcy the following year.

In January 2022, it was marketed for $295 million, which made it the most expensive residence available for purchase in the United States at the time. However, this price represented a significant decrease from the $500 million that Niami had planned to acquire for the property.

The house was put up for auction in the event that no purchasers came forward. Even though the highest bid for the mansion was $126 million, the total amount was closer to $141 million after the auction premium and commission costs were factored in.

The bidde? Fashion Nova’s billionaire CEO, Richard Saghian.

 

Sotheby’s Concierge Auctions said the sale was “more than double the highest US sale at auction and nearly 50% higher than the world record.”

In the mansion’s sprawling yard, you’ll find a sculpture from Italian glass maker Simone Cenedese.

The One boasts 21 bedrooms, 42 bathrooms, and seven half-bathrooms.

The One’s 4,000-square-foot master bedroom has a walk-in closet with plenty of space for clothes, shoes, and accessories.

Five swimming pools dot the property.

 

There are a few outdoors, one of which is on the rooftop of a 4,000-square-foot bedroom…

Though the home was built in the last decade, it has taken a cue from the construction of centuries past with a moat surrounding three sides of the property.

Less than a year after buying The One, Saghian has scooped up another pricey property in California.

He paid $40 million in an all-cash deal for a 6,000-square-foot beachfront home in an exclusive Malibu area known as “Billionaire’s Beach,” The Real Deal reported Thursday.

 

As for The One, it still holds the title of biggest modern US home. Given its auction, however, it obviously no longer has the record for the most expensive home for sale in the US.

Currently, that record belongs to a $250 million penthouse in New York City called The One Above All Else. At 1,416 feet above the city, the penthouse is also the world’s tallest residence.
