NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero claimed on Monday that Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs had reached an agreement on the parameters of a restructured contract that will pay the quarterback $210.6 million between the years 2023 and 2026. This will be the largest money ever paid out over a period of four years in the history of the NFL. Escalators in the contract could bring the total amount to $218.1 million by the time it expires in 2026.

According to Rapoport and Pelissero, the $210.6 million will be guaranteed over the course of the following four years.

Both parties have discussed the possibility of renegotiating the agreement after the 2026 season, which would effectively reduce the number of years left on the contract from eight to three.

To put it more plainly, the Chiefs moved up money to suitably recompense the NFL’s top player and shortened the agreement to offer Mahomes another chance at a pay day in light of the fact that quarterback salaries continue to climb.

Mahomes and the Chiefs reached an extension agreement in 2020 that would keep him under contract with the team through the 2031 season and pay him $450 million over 10 years.

As a result of Joe Burrow’s decision to extend his current contract, Patrick Mahomes has fallen to eighth place among quarterbacks in terms of average yearly compensation, which now stands at $45 million. Mahomes is paid less than Burrow, Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray, and Deshaun Watson. Now, as a result of the improved cash flow, Mahomes is back where he belongs, which is near the top.
