Cristiano Ronaldo Achieves Milestone as Al-Nassr Triumphs in AFC Champions League Clash
On Tuesday night, Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo made history as Al-Nassr emerged victorious in their AFC Champions League battle. Ronaldo played a full 90 minutes and was subbed off in added time during his team’s 2-0 win over Persepolis.
While he didn’t find the back of the net that night, the 38-year-old athlete managed to achieve an incredible feat yet again. With this win alongside the Saudi giants, Ronaldo extended his streak of 1000 games unbeaten (including wins and draws) across his club and international career.
In those 1000 matches, Ronaldo’s teams secured 776 wins and settled for 224 draws, a remarkable statistic by any measure.
Al-Nassr capitalized on their numerical advantage against a 10-man Persepolis at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium. The hosts suffered a setback when Milad Sarlak was sent off seven minutes into the second half after an incident involving Ronaldo.
Ten minutes later, the former Real Madrid striker set up Marcelo Brozovic, who unlocked the resilient hosts’ defense. Abdulrahman Ghareeb netted the opener with a deflected strike from Brozovic’s pass.
In the 72nd minute, Mohammed Qassem doubled Al-Nassr’s lead with a powerful shot into the top corner of Alireza Beiranvand’s net from a tight angle on the left.
Al-Nassr forward Sadio Mane commented on the game, saying, “It was a good game, even though the first half was a little bit difficult for both teams. We played well in the second half, created some chances, and scored two goals. I think we deserved to win tonight.”
The match took place in an empty Azadi Stadium due to a ban imposed on Persepolis by the Asian Football Confederation two years prior, preventing thousands of fans from witnessing Ronaldo’s performance since his arrival in Tehran.
With this victory, Al-Nassr now leads their group, sitting two points ahead of Al-Duhail, coached by Hernan Crespo, after the Qatari club played to a goalless draw against Tajikistan’s FC Istiklol in Dushanbe.
