Jude Bellingham continued his remarkable start at Real Madrid by scoring the winning goal in the dying moments of added time, securing a victory over Union Berlin in their Champions League group stage opener.
The English midfielder, who made the move to the Spanish giants from Borussia Dortmund during the summer, has now notched up six goals in just six appearances for his new club, all resulting in victories. Bellingham’s impact in the Spanish capital has been nothing short of spectacular, establishing himself as a true superstar.
Bellingham made an instant impression by scoring on his La Liga debut for Los Blancos, followed by a goal in his debut Champions League match. This achievement places him in an exclusive club at Real Madrid, a feat previously accomplished by only three other players, including the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo, the club’s all-time top scorer with an incredible 450 goals in 438 appearances, had scored in each of his club debuts in 2009. Playmaker Isco and Marco Asensio achieved the same feat in subsequent years.
Bellingham’s recent goal against Union Berlin came through an opportunistic and somewhat fortuitous deflection of a Toni Kroos shot that landed perfectly at his feet, right in front of the goal. His ability to time his runs into the box and position himself impeccably has been a key asset for Real Madrid.
The 20-year-old made his La Liga debut last month, marking it with a goal—a close-range volley from a corner kick—in a 2–0 away win over Athletic Club Bilbao. He followed this performance with a brace and an assist for Vinicius Junior in a 3–1 away victory against Almeria the following week.
In another game against Celta Vigo, Bellingham scored a late header to secure a 1-0 victory for Carlo Ancelotti’s side. His outstanding performances were recognized when he was named La Liga’s Player of the Month in August, becoming the first Englishman to receive the award.
Bellingham’s scoring streak continued as he netted a dramatic game-winning goal in the fifth minute of added time to help Madrid come from behind and defeat Getafe at the beginning of September, although his scoring run paused in the subsequent match against Real Sociedad, where Madrid still emerged victorious with a 2-1 scoreline.
