Liverpool will be missing two players for their Carabao Cup match against Leicester City, as confirmed by assistant manager Pep Lijnders.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has been outstanding in training after returning from injury, will not be involved in this game. Thiago Alcântara is still working his way back from his recent setback.
The Carabao Cup presents an opportunity for Liverpool to rotate their squad, similar to the first Europa League group game where Jurgen Klopp made 11 changes, resulting in a 3-1 win over LASK.
Despite the lineup changes, Liverpool is expected to have a good chance against Leicester, who are currently leading the Championship after being relegated from the Premier League in May.
The last encounter between Liverpool and Leicester took place in preseason at the end of July. Liverpool won both fixtures against Leicester last season, 2-1 at Anfield and 3-0 at the King Power Stadium.
In their most recent Carabao Cup meeting nearly two years ago in the quarter-finals, Liverpool secured victory on penalties after Takumi Minamino’s late equalizer. The draw for the fourth round of the competition will be held after the match.
