After a brief downturn following their 2022 championship run, the Golden State Warriors are making significant efforts to regain their status as title contenders. While they acquired future Hall of Famer Chris Paul in a trade with the Washington Wizards during the offseason, their championship aspirations still heavily rely on internal player development.
One player who is expected to make a major leap in his role is Jonathan Kuminga. During the preseason, Kuminga has shown promising signs, leaving a strong impression with his performance. In an interview with C.J. Holmes of The San Francisco Chronicle, Kuminga expressed his confidence and his eagerness to translate his preseason success into the regular season.
“I’m definitely confident,” Kuminga stated. “I remember last year against the Lakers they used to back up and let me shoot. I think coming into the league you have to be patient because things can switch up fast. A lot of things can happen. It’s just a matter of time, and I’m growing every single day.”
Kuminga had limited playing time in his rookie season with the Warriors but has emerged as one of the standout performers during the preseason. In the team’s first preseason game against the Lakers, he led the Warriors with 24 points, eight rebounds, and four assists coming off the bench. In their second preseason game, also against the Lakers, Kuminga once again led the team with 26 points, three rebounds, and three assists.
Kuminga’s impressive preseason performances have raised expectations for his role on the team in the upcoming season, and he looks set to become a key contributor for the Warriors.
