The standout player for the Memphis Grizzlies, Ja Morant, may make a comeback from a hand injury in time for Saturday’s Game 3 of his team’s first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers.
ESPN reports that Morant participated fully in Friday’s non-contact practice. It was said that he practiced shooting and dribbling during the workout.
For Saturday’s Game 3 against the Grizzlies, All-Star point guard Taylor Jenkins is presently listed as questionable and a game-time decision. At 1-1, the two teams are level.
Jenkins stated earlier in the week that Morant is experiencing discomfort, but on Friday, he sounded more upbeat.
Jenkins stated following Friday’s practice, “Symptoms are slightly improving from the other night,” as reported by the Memphis Commercial Appeal. “He’s going to be decided at the last minute.” He will test it out and see how it feels when he gets here and starts working in the morning.
At practice, Morant’s damaged hand was bandaged, according to the Commercial Appeal.
Jenkins informed the media that he would like Morant to work out alone on Saturday morning.
Jenkins stated, “Just getting the ball in his hands, dribbling, shooting, and catching the ball.” “I’m just attempting to engage him in as many activities as I can to gauge his level of comfort.”
Jenkins stated during practice, “After the other night, symptoms are slightly improving.” “He’s going to be decided at the last minute.” He will test it out and see how it feels when he gets here and starts working in the morning.
Following an aggravated injury sustained on April 7, when Memphis secured the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference with a victory over Milwaukee, Morant underwent an MRI on Monday. The results indicated merely bruising of the tissue between the bones.
Morant seemed to bend his right hand as he landed after driving to the basket against Lakers center Anthony Davis in the opening game of the first-round series. With 5:48 remaining, he was penalized for a charge, writhed in agony, and then sprinted toward the Grizzlies’ bench, yelling close to midcourt on his way to the locker room. Upon his return to the bench, he had a black brace on his hand instead of the white tape that Morant had been using during the Lakers’ 128–112 defeat.
With just one hour’s notice, Tyus Jones scored ten points and disheveled eight assists on Wednesday to replace Sergeant.
LeBron James, however, pointed out that Jones has had the longest streak of assist-to-turnover ratio in NBA history—five seasons in a row. In order to keep him around for a seventh season, Memphis offered him starter money last summer.
