The Lakers’ early-season schedule was already formidable, with matchups against the Nuggets and Suns, arguably the top two teams in the Western Conference, to kick things off. After their loss to the Nuggets on Tuesday, the Thursday showdown against the Suns seemed even more challenging. However, the injury reports from Wednesday have introduced some unexpected developments.

For the Lakers, Jarred Vanderbilt will be sidelined once again, though with a noteworthy difference from his previous absences. While he was previously listed as “out” with “left heel soreness” throughout the preseason and the first game of the season, he is now listed as “out” with “left heel bursitis.” This change in description might not hold much significance, but given the uncertainty surrounding his injury, it stands out.

Additionally, Daeshun Ruffin, also known as Hood-Schifino, will remain out, and Cam Reddish is a new addition to the injury report with “right foot soreness.”

The most surprising developments, however, come from the Suns’ injury report. Devin Booker, who played on Tuesday and scored 32 points in 37 minutes, was not only an unexpected addition to the injury report but is also listed as “doubtful.” Alongside him, Bradley Beal, who had previously expressed his desire to play in Thursday’s game against the Lakers, is also listed as “doubtful.”

The Suns made significant roster moves during the offseason to acquire Bradley Beal, and playing without him, as well as potentially being without two members of their Big Three, presents a challenging situation.

However, Phoenix managed to secure a road victory against Golden State on Tuesday, even without Beal. Nonetheless, the absence of arguably the best performer among those three stars poses a considerable challenge for the Suns.
