Warriors Show Promise in Close Loss to Suns as Steph Curry and Chris Paul Find Chemistry
The Golden State Warriors began their season with a closely contested defeat against the Phoenix Suns, during which they displayed promising signs of chemistry between Steph Curry and Chris Paul.
Paul and Curry played pivotal roles in a remarkable 40-point run for the Warriors during the third quarter, despite ultimately succumbing to a 104-108 loss.
As the NBA’s most prolific three-point shooter, Curry expressed his excitement about the potential that he and the esteemed “Point God” Chris Paul can unleash on the court.
“We’re just continuing to get more comfortable, understanding who’s initiating plays and where shots are going to come from. We’re developing sets based on ball possession,” Curry explained. “Our transition has been incredibly smooth because we both possess a deep understanding of the game, and there’s a significant level of trust that whoever has the ball will make the right decisions.
“We’ve had just one game together, plus a couple of preseason games, but we’re building confidence in terms of what we aim to achieve. We’ll keep improving over the next 81 games, and when Draymond [Green] returns, we’ll have even more to figure out regarding rotations and strategies. We communicate effectively and engage in basketball discussions to resolve matters, which will keep us on the right track.”
Despite recording numerous turnovers in the preseason, Chris Paul displayed adept ball control by committing only one turnover in the game. Furthermore, he adeptly led the team in Curry’s absence, demonstrating an impressive command of the game.
Paul’s former teammate in Phoenix, Devin Booker, credited his performance to Paul’s mentorship, emphasizing how much he learned from him during his time with the Suns.
“He is one of the finest players when it comes to manipulating the game and understanding game situations. He reads the game exceptionally well and anticipates what will transpire before each possession,” Booker remarked after the game. “He has viewed the game from a unique perspective for a very long time. I was fortunate to absorb a lot from him over an extended period, and I continue to do so to this day.”
Booker played a pivotal role in the Suns’ victory, contributing 32 points, six rebounds, and eight assists while shooting at a 46.1 percent accuracy from the field.
