While there have been numerous stories concerning the stalled contract talks between Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors, neither side has made any public statements. Thompson broke his silence on the subject during a press conference during the Sacramento Kings’ shootaround on Friday morning.
“I don’t know, I mean yeah, I’m just focused on the daily dedication it takes to do this job,” Thompson replied when asked if conversations between him and the Warriors have been put on hold with the season about to begin. “I’m not concerned about an extension right now.” That will be resolved.””I just don’t wanna think about it,” Thompson replied when asked if the start of the season constituted an artificial deadline for him. It bothers me to think about it. Yeah, I hate thinking about it.”
Thompson confessed that he is going to enjoy this season even more because nothing is sure beyond this year, underlining how he was a key component in creating the Warriors brand synonymous with success.
The good news for all sides is that Thompson and the Warriors are both interested in reaching an agreement. While they are separated by years and money, both parties would prefer to continue working together for the rest of Thompson’s career.
Those conversations are currently deadlocked, but Thompson is unconcerned.
