The Golden State Warriors emerged victorious in a thrilling all-California matchup against the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night, propelled by the heroics of Klay Thompson.
Klay Thompson once again played the role of hero for the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night, securing a thrilling victory over the Sacramento Kings with a game-winning 17-foot jumper in the final seconds.
Thompson shared his thoughts on the remarkable shot following the tense 102-101 win, stating, “I realize we didn’t have much time, so I just wanted to take a couple hard dribbles, get to my spot, and rise up, luckily I made a good move with confidence and knocked it down. That’s what being a basketball player is all about—doing things with great confidence.”
The clutch shot came immediately after Domantas Sabonis had given the Kings the lead with a jumper just 16 seconds before regulation ended. This followed Steph Curry’s layup, which had given the Warriors the lead with 33 seconds remaining.
The win extended the Warriors’ impressive streak to 7-0 in their last seven home games against the Kings, a team coached by their former top assistant, Mike Brown.
Furthermore, this matchup marked the 11th meeting between the rival Warriors and Kings in their last 17 games, including preseason contests—an occurrence described as unprecedented by Warriors coach Steve Kerr.
“That’s probably never happened in the history of the NBA,” Warriors coach Kerr said.
Dario Saric an unsung hero
While the spotlight often shines on the Splash Brothers, Klay Thompson and Steph Curry, Dario Saric played a crucial role in the game. The Croatian contributed significantly on both ends of the court, tallying 15 points and six rebounds, in addition to two assists and three 3-pointers. Head coach Kerr praised Saric, stating, “Dario was a huge pick up for us, a guy who can flat out play. He was fantastic tonight.”
With this victory, the Warriors improved to a 4-1 record for the season, securing the second spot in the Western Conference. They are now embarking on a road trip that will take them through Oklahoma City, Cleveland, Detroit, and Denver before returning home next weekend.
