November 2–The Golden State Warriors defeated the Sacramento Kings 102-101 on Wednesday in San Francisco thanks to a disputed jumper by Klay Thompson that was made with only a tenth of a second remaining.
Golden State has advanced to 2-0 in preseason games against Sacramento, which are rematches of the Warriors’ seven-game victory in the first round of the playoffs last year.
With 14.5 seconds left, the Warriors moved the ball without a timeout after Domantas Sabonis made a 20-footer from just above the foul line to put Sacramento up 101-100. However, they were unable to release their top scorer, Stephen Curry, who had 21 points.
The ball went to Thompson instead, and with no other option and little time remaining, the seasoned player managed to get close enough to make the game-winning shot.
The Kings had just two tenths of a second remaining and attempted to move the ball to midcourt through an alley-oop inbound pass, but were unsuccessful and ended up losing to their rivals in Northern California for the second time in six days.
After losing their first game at home to the Phoenix Suns, the Warriors won four games in a row despite having a 48-36 rebounding disparity and committing 18 turnovers, three more than the Kings did.
