The addition of Kevin Durant to the Golden State Warriors in 2016 was a brilliant fusion of skills. Their time playing together showcased Durant and Steph Curry as an almost unstoppable force. Their collaboration resulted in two championships, solidifying their status as one of the dominant teams in the dynasty’s era.
Steph Curry expressed a desire for Durant to return to the Warriors.
Since parting ways, both sides have followed divergent paths, leading to distinct outcomes. The Warriors faced challenges for a few years due to injuries but rebounded, clinching another NBA title two years ago and contending for another championship last year.
Kevin Durant has faced challenges finding a lasting team. Departing from the Warriors, he initially moved to the Brooklyn Nets, teaming up with Kyrie Irving in what was anticipated as a formidable duo. However, the synergy didn’t materialize, leading to his subsequent trade to the Phoenix Suns last season.
Yet, even with his new team, Durant faced setbacks. The Suns had a disappointing postseason for the second consecutive year, resulting in the dismissal of their popular head coach and significant offseason changes. Despite this, the Suns are poised as contenders for the Western Conference title in the upcoming season. However, Curry’s preferences could have altered Durant’s destination.
Steph Curry and KD never had a falling out.
In a recent interview with The Ringer, Curry was asked about the possibility of reuniting with Durant in the future. While confirming they had conversations, it aligns with rumors indicating the Warriors’ interest in Durant before his trade to Phoenix.
“There was probably a sense of excitement or wonder, like, ‘Is this really a possibility?’” To be honest, I had talked to him about it a few times, but he wasn’t involved in making decisions, so he couldn’t sаy, “I want to do X, Y, Z.” It seemed like a more natural conversation.
Even though Durant may have been fired because of something one of Curry’s teammates did, Curry says he has never had a problem with Durant. “He didn’t owe me anything,” Curry said. “He made up his own mind about when to leave.”
