A pair of turnovers contribute to the Warriors’ heartbreaker over the Sacramento Kings

Two turnovers in the last 44 seconds of the game robbed the Warriors a victory in Sacramento on Tuesday night. The Warriors were defeated 124-123 by the Kings on Malik Monk’s fadeaway banked jumpshot, blowing a 24-point lead in the first half. The Kings therefore won Group C of the in-season event.

With 44 seconds left, the Warriors led by four points. Monk, who made a 3-pointer, intercepted Steph Curry. Draymond Green then passed a ball out of bounds, which resulted to Monk’s game-winning shot. The Warriors committed 18 turnovers.

Until the second half, the Warriors had a chance to win Group C of the in-season event. The Warriors needed to beat the Kings by at least 12 points to top Group C and proceed to the in-season tournament after the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder earlier in the night. All of it washed away when the Warriors committed 31 personal fouls and the Kings took 42 free throws.

The Warriors’ 72 points in the first half equaled their season high for most in a half (72 against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Nov. 3). More essential to their argument was the 17-point advantage they had at halftime, their biggest of the season. The Warriors fouled 11 times in the third quarter, allowing the Kings to claw back into the game with a nine-point disadvantage.
