Anthony Davis and Austin Reaves both turned in outstanding outings, which allowed the Los Angeles Lakers to easily defeat the Rockets.
On Saturday night, the Lakers seemed revitalized as they cruised to a 107-97 win against the Rockets. They were healthy and had returned home after a road trip as well.
Despite the fact that both Anthony Davis and Austin Reaves got off to a sluggish start, they went on to dominate the game. AD finished with 27 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, and five blocks in addition to his scoring. He ended the game with 18 points, four rebounds, and three steals. Reaves was on fire in the second quarter of the game.
LeBron James contributed 16 points, seven assists, and four rebounds to the team’s total. Following his comeback, Cam Reddish scored 11 points, while Max Christie, who came off the bench, scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Taurean Prince made the first three-point shot of the game for the Los Angeles Lakers. Jalen Green accidentally elbowed AD in the face, and then Jabari Smith Jr. struck him again, and AD displayed obvious pain as a result of both of these knocks. He did not depart from the game.
The Rockets gained the lead early on in the first quarter, and the Lakers struggled to keep up with them for the most of the period. The Rockets had a 30-25 lead at the conclusion of the quarter, despite the fact that they had been playing considerably better as the quarter was coming to a close.
With ten points, LeBron James was the first player from either club to score in double digits. His performance began to pick up steam throughout the second quarter. There was a lot of delight among the spectators at Crypto when Dillon “The Villian” Brooks was awarded a technical penalty.
With the aid of an AD block that resulted in a Reaves slam, the Lakers were able to extend their advantage to five points. The margin was increased to nine points after an 18-2 run. In spite of the fact that he got off to a poor start, Reaves managed to score 15 points in only 15 minutes. At the halftime break, the Lakers had a 60-44 lead.
Following the Lakers’ inability to make baskets at the beginning of the third quarter, the Rockets were able to cut the deficit to ten points. They would not allow the Lakers to extend their advantage any more and continued to hover about. The Lakers finished the quarter with a 14-point lead, 86-72, thanks to a remarkable three-point shot by Max Christie that beat the buzzer.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Lakers had increased their advantage to seventeen points. Ime Udoka, the coach of the Rockets, was removed from the game after receiving a second technical foul as a result of a few players exchanging some remarks that were not very pleasant.
Throughout the most of the quarter, the Lakers maintained a high level of intensity. As the game was coming to a close, the Rockets were being annoying and managed to make it a game that was decided by ten points. Even though the Rockets saw a surprise surge, it was not enough to win the game since the Lakers managed to hold on.
The most important takeaways are that they were able to adapt quite effectively despite the fact that they had a slow start, which initially put them down. It is imperative that the sluggish beginnings be eliminated!
Tonight, the defensive effort that was put out by everyone was outstanding. Seven blocks, of which AD was responsible for five, and eleven steals were very noteworthy for the squad as a whole. An honorable mention should be given to Christie for the tremendous effort he put in tonight, particularly for the defense he provided on Fred VanVleet on many occasions.
The fact that this team has been able to keep their turnovers to single digits tonight is evidence that they are most successful when they do not turn the ball over ten times or more.
Next up for the Los Angeles Lakers is a quarterfinal matchup versus the Phoenix Suns in the In-Season Tournament, which will take place on Tuesday at 7:00 PM Pacific Time.
