McLaren Solus GT – realistic virtual racing car priced at 3.5 million USD

The racing car is limited to 25 units, and customers who have purchased the new McLaren Saber can own the Solus GT.

Solus GT is a fictional product from the Gran Turismo video game, first released in 2017 as McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo. However, McLaren turned the virtual car into reality and introduced it to the public at the Monterey event.

The real-life Solus GT is equipped with a 5.2-liter V10 engine with up to 10,000 rpm, generating 829 horsepower and 648 Nm of torque. The car is expected to weigh less than 1,000 kg and McLaren wants a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of less than 2.5 seconds, with a maximum speed of more than 322 km/h. It all goes through a 7-speed sequential transmission and straight-cut gears in a carbon fiber clutch to deliver the fastest and most powerful gear changes.

The vehicle weighs less than 1 ton, but can create up to 1,199 kg of downforce. McLaren was able to create such a car by performing Computational Fluid Dynamics and aerodynamic research in a wind tunnel, a specialized type of testing for Formula 1 racing cars. The British car company says the Solus GT will outperform any McLaren single-seat racing car.

Like a Formula 1 car, the Solus GT only has enough room for one person with specially carved seats according to each person’s body shape. Each owner will receive a racing suit, helmet and head and neck support (HANS) that meets FIA requirements, along with a driver development training program to learn how to control. car in the most professional way.

The driver enters the cabin through a forward sliding door, which is unlike a conventional car door or McLaren’s signature butterfly doors. Once inside, the seat is fixed while the pedal box can be adjusted for maximum comfort, similar to a racing car. There are few luxury details inside, but the driver is protected by a slightly luxurious cockpit. Like other McLarens, the Solus GT uses a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and other high-end materials such as 3D printed titanium for the cockpit protection structure and chassis cage.

McLaren did not give a specific price, but revealed that the Solus GT costs more than 3.5 million USD, limited to 25 units worldwide, but only to customers who have purchased the McLaren Saber, a car model originally intended for the US market. , just had the opportunity to own Solus GT. Customers can choose personalization through the McLaren Special Operations (MSO) department. The car is currently in the testing phase on the track and will be delivered to customers in 2023.
