Draymond Green and Klay Thompson are confident despite the Golden State Warriors’ difficult start

The Golden State Warriors’ start to the 2023/24 NBA season has been compared to a roller coaster ride. They began off optimistically with a record of 6 wins and 2 defeats, but then plunged, losing 7 of their last 9 matches.

Last season, the Warriors overcame their weakness of losing away games by winning 5/8 away games. Their home field record, on the other hand, is clearly worse. Stephen Curry hurt his knee and had to miss two games, which was one of the reasons the Warriors rejected. Draymond Green was also suspended for five games for choking Timberwolves guard Rudy Gobert.

Furthermore, the incredible deterioration of two key members of the 2022 championship squad, Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins, is one of the reasons why the “Warriors” have recently fared poorly.

Thompson averaged 15.0 points per game, a 40.2% shooting percentage, and a 36.7% 3-point shooting percentage in 16 games. These are the lowest metrics in the four-time NBA champion’s career.

Wiggins has an average of 11.8 points through 17 games – Wiggins’ shooting % and other offensive indicators also reveal that this is his lowest level of his career. Thompson and Wiggins are clearly performing below expectations.

Thompson is one of the best shooters in NBA history, but his tempo has slowed significantly as a result of two catastrophic leg injuries, and he can’t throw as well as he used to. Wiggins’ stock has plummeted in the years since his initial meteoric rise. Since joining the Warriors in 2020, Wiggins has never reached his prime and has mostly played defense.

Wiggins and Thompson are both well-known defensive defenders in the NBA. However, both of them disappointed everyone this season because they had the Warriors’ poorest on-field defensive stats. Thompson and Wiggins both had moments to shine, but they were insufficient in comparison to what everyone expected.

Despite the Warriors’ poor start, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson are upbeat.

Despite his sluggish start, Thompson remains confident in his ability to become the Warriors’ starting shooting guard.

“Would you like [head coach Steve Kerr] to bench me?” “Should Wiggins be benched?” When asked about Kerr’s belief in rough beginnings, Thompson reacted angrily. “You need patience and time to find yourself, don’t forget history is on our side when it comes to those things.”

Green, like Thompson, expressed faith in Thompson and Wiggins.

“They both started slower than before. “I think when people look at the last two or three games, they notice that we all played a lot better, threw more shots, were more aggressive, and more decisive,” Green said.  “Wiggs and Klay are exceptional athletes. They demonstrated their talent early in the competition by scoring 20 points or more for the first time in practically their entire career.”

Green also commended Stephen Curry and Chris Paul, two of the tournament’s top point guards. The Warriors have more opportunity to throw the ball smoothly because they have two strong defenders.

“Look at the last two or three games, they’re all excellent players.” When you see folks like that year after year, you can just hang your hat and hope that they are improving things and not just being lucky,” Green added.

“It’s nice to see they’ve both had a couple of good games recently.” Now we’re trying to build on that and ensure that everyone is hungry to win.”
