Stephen Curry has transformed the NBA with his remarkable three-point shooting skills, holding the record for the most three-pointers in league history. Beyond his on-court achievements, the Warriors point guard has unexpectedly influenced the league off the court.
During an interview on Showtime’s Headliners with Rachel Nichols, where he was joined by Golden State coach Steve Kerr, Curry discussed how his passion for popcorn evolved into a distinct and separate project.
“I get to the arena, that’s the first thing I’m looking for. There inside or just outside the locker room,” Curry said. “Then it became a thing where I started to rate them. I had a whole printout, a whole chart.”
Curry revealed that he embarked on a mission to evaluate and rank the popcorn at various NBA arenas. His assessments considered factors such as saltiness, crunch, butteriness, temperature, and portion size. As word spread about Curry’s unique popcorn-ranking project, arenas became eager to ensure that the Warriors’ point guard enjoyed their particular popcorn offerings.
“I just went through the whole league that year and ranked them, then the word got out,” he said. “Now I get hand-written notes from whoever the locker room attendants are, even the chefs.”
In light of Curry’s popcorn-ranking initiative, chefs across the NBA are now placing heightened emphasis on the quality of their popcorn, a shift noted by Nichols.
“Around the league, popcorn vendors, the quality stepped up,” Nichols said.
While Stephen Curry is undoubtedly a future Hall of Famer, recognized for his four championships, exceptional shooting prowess, and superstar-level career, an interesting addition to his Hall of Fame résumé may well be his contribution to the improved popcorn experience for fans across the league.
