Ja Morant suspension: Adam Silver to speak directly to Grizzlies star next week ahead of his return

Ja Morant will be eligible to play for the Memphis Grizzlies again on December 19 in New Orleans after serving a 25-game suspension.

However, he has an in-person meeting with NBA commissioner Adam Silver arranged before that. It feels more like a check-in than a prerequisite for him to return to play.

At a press conference on Saturday, just before the in-season tournament final, Silver stated, “I have been monitoring the situation closely, and him.”. “Ja and I actually plan to meet up this week to check in.”

The NBA was tough with the All-Star guard, suspending him soon after the June Finals ended. After a string of unsettling episodes and infractions, including Morant posting photos of weapons in a car and a Denver nightclub on social media, this took place.

After the suspension, Silver made it clear that Morant needed to adhere to specific rules before being able to play again. He is free to participate in team activities and travel with them even while he is suspended.

The league made it plain that they did not intend to remove Morant from the league due to these infractions; rather, they wanted to hold him responsible while still allowing him a chance to return as an exciting star of the league.

The players’ association, Ja’s team, and the league office have been in touch frequently, almost regularly, according to Silver. “Those checkpoints have been there.”

The public has not been informed about the purported checkpoints, and following the NBPA’s statement stating that Morant’s suspension was unjust and harsh, there has been a significant change in leadership at the top, with Andre Iguodala temporarily replacing Tamika Tremaglio.

As far as Silver is aware, “he’s complied with everything that has been asked of him,” since they had jointly devised a plan for him to follow for the past few weeks. “Remember, I mentioned that we will have a conversation this week before his return. During that conversation, we will go over the program and ensure that everything is set up for him to succeed in the future.”

Since nothing has been made public in the past few months, it is reasonable to presume that the checkpoints will feature Morant avoiding difficulty throughout that time. Having said that, he is still coping with the fallout from something that happened before he started posting pictures of guns on social media.

A 17-year-old claims that after a basketball game, Morant attacked him in his backyard, prompting the lawsuit. The whole Pack family, including Morant’s parents and buddy Davonte, has been subpoenaed to testify in court over that incident.

With so many promising rookies making waves early on, it would be fair to say that the league hasn’t been missing Morant. Anthony Edwards of Minnesota and Tyrese Haliburton of Indiana, both of whom are All-Stars, have stepped up to fill the role, with Haliburton becoming even more famous throughout the IST.

After two years of adjusting to life without Morant, the Grizzlies have found themselves severely lacking in his presence. With a record of 6–15, they are three games clear of the Spurs for the poorest Western record.
