Despite a late-breaking non-COVID-19 sickness, Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Austin Reaves virtually single-handedly lifted up LA’s bench during the Lakers’ 123-109 In-Season Tournament Championship win over the Indiana Pacers yesterday.
The 6’5″ third-year swingman scored 28 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field and 10-of-12 shooting from the foul line, while also dishing out three assists. The rest of LA’s reserves totaled two points.
Los Angeles All-NBA power forward LeBron James can be heard asking a controversial, hot-take question during a Reaves postgame locker room conversation with assorted reporters, his “In-Season Tournament Champions” hat positioned awkwardly atop maybe 2/3 of his head.
LeBron James in the background: “Who had the better flu game: AR [Austin Reaves] or MJ [Michael Jordan]?! It’s up for debate!”
Reaves: “I’m gonna let LeBron keep talking and I’m gonna continue to talk about the game.”
Michael Jordan, infamously, had suffered possible food sickness while in Utah prior to Game 5 of his Chicago Bulls’ 1997 NBA Finals series against the Utah Jazz.
A clearly exhausted Jordan powered the Bulls to a crucial win, scoring 38 points on 13-of-27 shooting (2-of-5 from deep) from the floor and 10-of-12 shooting from the foul line, pulling down seven rebounds, dishing out five assists, stealing three shots, and blocking one shot in 44:17. Scottie Pippen had to help a noticeably dehydrated Jordan off the floor at times.
The Bulls climbed to 3-2 in the Jazz series, with Chicago en route to its fifth win in seven years and its second straight.
