Ja Morant and the harsh sanction he could face: Will he be suspended for half of the 2023-24 season?

Ja Morant’s ban could mean that the Memphis Grizzlies miss the opening part of the 2023–2024 NBA season.

There is some uncertainty on the duration of his suspension. Many anticipate a protracted sentence, yet some stories downplay the seriousness of his penalty.

Morant

According to recent reporting by Sam Amico of Hoops Wire, “league sources have told Hoops Wire they believe Morant will be suspended for no less than the first half of the regular season.”

Although the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets are now tied 1-1 in their series, no decisions have been made as of yet, and it is unlikely that any will be made until after the NBA Finals are over.

What is causing Ja Morant’s suspension?

Morant’s problems come from his appearance in an Instagram Live video from the 2022–2023 season where he was seen brandishing a gun at a strip club. Because of the event, he received an eight-game suspension during that campaign.

Along with additional incidences and accusations of abusing an adolescent, that video also came to light.

When the Grizzlies completed their eight-game suspension, they thought the situation would be resolved. Rather, he was seen with a gun on an Instagram Live after the 2022–2023 season concluded, demonstrating that he had not at all learnt his lesson.

Before the finals, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver spoke about Morant, stating, “We’ve uncovered a fair amount of additional information.” We’ve decided that it would be unjust to these players and these teams to reveal that decision in the middle of this series, but we could have definitely brought it to a head immediately.”
