Warriors Come Close to Overcoming Steph Curry’s Struggles in 120-114 Loss to Nuggets

Warriors Fall Short Against Nuggets in Hard-Fought Contest

In a closely contested matchup, the Golden State Warriors were unable to secure a victory against the Denver Nuggets, ultimately losing 120-114 on Monday afternoon. The defeat dropped the Warriors to a 15-15 record for the season, as they faced a formidable opponent in one of the Western Conference’s top teams.

The Warriors Have A Steph Curry Problem

Anticipation surrounded the showdown between Steph Curry and Nikola Jokić, two of the league’s brightest stars. However, neither player delivered a dominant overall performance. Jokić took until the second half to make his first field-goal attempt, but he remained a scoring threat by making all 16 of his free-throw attempts, finishing the game with 26 points, 14 rebounds, and 8 assists. Curry struggled with his shooting, concluding the game with 18 points, 2 rebounds, and 4 assists on 7-for-21 shooting.

Seeking offensive support, the Nuggets showcased the strength of their starting lineup, with Jamal Murray leading the way with 28 points. Every member of Denver’s starting five contributed at least 16 points, highlighting their balanced scoring. The Nuggets’ bench, however, played a limited role in the scoring department.

The Warriors, known for their depth, saw Andrew Wiggins shine as a standout performer, contributing 22 points on efficient shooting (7-for-11) along with tough perimeter defense. Dario Šarić and Chris Paul combined for 27 points off the bench, providing valuable contributions. Despite the strong showing from Wiggins, Brandin Podziemski’s impressive performance as a starter continued, filling the stat sheet with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals.

Inside the Warriors

The game witnessed a competitive back-and-forth, with the Nuggets starting strong from behind the arc and leading throughout the first quarter. However, Golden State’s bench sparked a second-quarter rally, allowing them to take their first lead. Despite the Warriors’ resilience and a series of runs, Curry and Klay Thompson’s struggles to generate efficient scoring proved challenging to overcome, particularly as Jamal Murray caught fire late in the game.
