Gran Turismo has brought to the world of cars with extremely impressive designs, one of which is the appearance of the new McLaren Solus GT supercar.
First introduced in Gran Turismo Sport as part of the Vision GT project, this completely virtual creation has become a reality with a total of 25 new 2023 McLaren Solus GTs to be built, all were all sold commercially and owners could only drive these cars on the track.
The single-seat race car was officially unveiled at the Monterey Car Week in California. The McLaren Solus GT supercar first appeared on Gran Turismo Sport in 2017 under the name McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo. However, for now, this race car with a 5.2-liter V10 engine and seven-speed sequential transmission will soon be rolling on race tracks around the world.
This engine block even has a rpm limit of up to 10,000 rpm and produces more than 817 horsepower and 648 Nm of torque. The total weight of the Solus GT is less than 1000 kg and McLaren is aiming for an acceleration time of 0 – 96 km/h in under 2.5 seconds. The brand also said that the Solus GT will have a maximum speed in excess of 322 km/h.
McLaren CEO Michael Leiters marked the achievement by saying “The McLaren Solus GT is the realization of a radical McLaren concept car originally created for the world of virtual racing. Designed without any restrictions from road or racing regulations, but with all of McLaren’s expertise to make it happen, the car embodies the pioneering spirit of our brand. I.”
Buyers can get the full driving experience in the making including having a seat molded to the individual’s body shape. Buyers will also receive an FIA approved racing suit, helmet and HANS gear to keep them safe on the single-seater supercar that is not restricted to the track.
This car model has a completely different design compared to other cars under the McLaren brand. Bruno Senna, racing driver and prototype tester for the Solus GT, told Bloomberg that driving the car is a completely different experience when compared to other Mclaren supercars.
This is the closest you can get to a top-end race car. It’s fun to drive this car but certainly for those who buy this car they will need a trainer to guide them.”
Now, McLaren has also revealed that all 25 production units have now been sold out. While the price was not announced, the price of the McLaren Solus GT is rumored to be around 3.5 million USD
