Denver Nuggets Host Special Olympics Athletes for Annual Contract Signing Event
The Denver Nuggets, in collaboration with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, warmly welcomed over 100 athletes from the Special Olympics of Colorado on Wednesday for their annual contract signing event. Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth signed participants to symbolic one-day contracts, marking the beginning of a special day filled with unique experiences.
The athletes had the opportunity to take their “rookie trading card” photos at a photo booth and then proceeded to the court for their first day of practice. Meeting all the players from the team, they engaged in various activities, including workouts, dribbling drills, and shooting skills.
Notably, participants had the chance to interact with stars like Jamal Murray, fostering a sense of encouragement and confidence. Michael Bush, one of the Special Olympics athletes, expressed that events like these inspire them to pursue their dreams of becoming not just good athletes but exceptional teammates.
Megan Scremin from Special Olympics Colorado emphasized that this opportunity is a highlight for the athletes, bringing smiles to their faces as they engage with NBA stars like Nikola Jokic, who actively encourages and supports them.
The day concluded with a memorable group photo featuring the Special Olympics athletes alongside the Denver Nuggets team, complemented by appearances from the Denver Nuggets Dancers. The event not only provided a unique and uplifting experience for the participants but also showcased the Nuggets’ commitment to community engagement and inclusion.
