In the ever-present shadow of Red Bull’s interest, McLaren CEO Zak Brown is prioritizing the long-term commitment of Lando Norris in 2024, despite the occasional overtures from the rival team.

Currently under contract with McLaren until the end of 2025, Norris has been a target for Red Bull on multiple occasions throughout his racing career. Brown remains assured of Norris’s contentment with the team and is optimistic about extending their successful partnership.

Addressing Norris’s future, Brown stated, “I’m very confident the relationship that we have with Lando [remains strong]. He loves working with Andrea and everyone on the team. So, all we need to keep doing is giving him the environment he wants to be in. And then I’m confident he’ll stick around, as opposed to trying to kind of sell against the competition. That’s never been my way.”

McLaren has already secured Norris’s teammate, Oscar Piastri, until 2027, highlighting the team’s commitment to building a stable and competitive lineup beyond the upcoming changes in the 2026 season, which will introduce new engine regulations.

Brown emphasized, “We’re very focused now here, obviously on the short term, but also ’26 isn’t far away, and recognize being able to retain Lando and Oscar for the foreseeable future is definitely a key element and something that is a high priority for us.”

Despite Norris’s popularity as one of F1’s notable figures, he is yet to secure a Grand Prix victory. McLaren team boss Andreas Stella believes that achieving this milestone will significantly boost Norris’s confidence.

Stella commented, “I think the first victory is always somehow the most important… It’s more about us being ready in delivering the car that allows him to take the opportunities. At the moment, like actually we’ve been leading races, even last year, more than once, but we couldn’t kind of consolidate this result up to the checkered flag. So conditions are there. We look forward to it, and hopefully we’ll have the opportunity in 2024.”
