Despite rumors that negotiations for a contract extension between Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors have stalled, the seasoned shooter is still full of confidence. Thompson declared, “My 13th year in The Association and it’s gonna be the best one yet,” while doing a live stream from his boat.
Naturally, these remarks were made in the midst of the rumors regarding Thompson’s contract status, but they didn’t seem to be aimed at the Warriors or anything associated with those discussions. Despite this, Thompson, who never lacks confidence, is going into this season knowing that there is a lot on the line.
The desire to win a fifth championship with Draymond Green and Steph Curry drives Thompson every day. Thompson has an additional incentive to be focused this year: he may be playing for his final big contract in the NBA.
There does not appear to be a financial or time difference between the two parties, despite reports surrounding Thompson’s non-payment of a contract extension. Although Thompson’s desire for a contract that brings him closer to the end of his career makes sense, it also makes sense for the Warriors to align Thompson’s extension with Curry and Green’s contracts.
