Red Bull-Owned AlphaTauri Formula One Team Unveils Name Change to Visa Cash App RB
On Wednesday, the Red Bull-owned AlphaTauri Formula One team made a significant announcement, revealing a name change to Visa Cash App RB. The team is set to showcase its revamped livery at a highly anticipated event in Las Vegas on February 8.
In conjunction with this transformation, Visa has also made headlines by securing its first major global sports sponsorship in over 15 years. The multi-year agreement positions Visa as a partner for both the newly-named team, Visa Cash App RB, and the dominant world champions, Red Bull Racing.
The team’s drivers, Australian Daniel Ricciardo and Japanese Yuki Tsunoda, are set to navigate the challenges of the upcoming Formula One season under the fresh banner. The team, originally Scuderia Toro Rosso and formerly Minardi, has undergone multiple name changes, and the latest shift is bound to spark discussions on its abbreviation.
While the official www.Formula1.com website mentions the team as RB, it’s noteworthy that Red Bull Racing’s cars have conventionally adopted the RB prefix, with the previous year’s car designated as the RB19.
Expressing enthusiasm about the change, Visa Cash App RB’s CEO, Peter Bayer, stated, “It’s fantastic to reveal the new identity and to welcome new partners as we embark on the next phase of the team’s Formula One story. Faenza is entering a new era of racing, staying true to our roots as a hothouse for talent but now with an even greater focus on competing for the biggest prizes in F1.”
In addition to the team sponsorship, Visa will also support the team’s all-female F1 Academy entry, showcasing a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the sport.
AlphaTauri concluded the previous season in eighth place among the 10 competing teams. The highly anticipated start of the 2024 Formula One season is scheduled for March 2 in Bahrain.
