Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves had a bustling offseason, marked by his first playoff run, the launch of his signature shoe, and selection to Team USA’s FIBA World Cup roster. 

Despite initial speculations about his place on the roster, Reaves swiftly silenced critics by making valuable contributions off the bench and often closing games for Team USA. In his international debut, the Arkansas native averaged 13.8 points, 2.4 assists, 1.3 steals, shooting an impressive 57% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc. However, Team USA finished fourth in the tournament.

As preparations for the 2024 Olympics in Paris unfold, rumors circulate about NBA superstars teaming up for a shot at the Gold Medal, with LeBron James among the potential teammates. The recently revealed player pool for the Paris Olympics includes James, Reaves, and Anthony Davis. When asked about his inclusion, Reaves expressed excitement and gratitude for being considered.

Reaves’ stellar performance during the summer with Team USA undoubtedly influenced his place in the player pool. While it will be a challenging task for the 25-year-old to secure a spot on the roster, given the presence of established stars and rising talents, Reaves remains optimistic. The player pool boasts names like Bam Adebayo, Joel Embiid, De’Aaron Fox, Paul George, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard, Jayson Tatum, and Donovan Mitchell, not to mention James and Davis, who are expected to secure spots if healthy.

Even if Reaves doesn’t make the cut for the 2024 Olympics, his impressive showing has caught the attention of Team USA general manager Grant Hill, placing him on the national team’s radar for the future. While Reaves would love the opportunity to represent the USA in the Paris Olympics, he remains realistic about his chances amidst the stiff competition in the star-studded player pool.
