Stephen Curry, the star player for the Golden State Warriors, expressed frustration with the officiating in their recent 145-144 double-overtime loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Curry mentioned that he was involved in three plays where he believed there were clear bad calls.
The Warriors attempted only 16 free throws compared to the Lakers’ 43, and Golden State was called for 13 more fouls. The discrepancy in free throw attempts was a significant factor in the game, and Curry highlighted the lack of consistency in the officiating.
“You want to be in place where the players decide the game or it’s consistent on both ends of what you’re calling,” he told reporters. “… There were probably three plays that I was involved in where it was a clear bad call.”
Curry acknowledged that teams relying heavily on the perimeter game, like the Warriors, may find it challenging to draw fouls, especially with the NBA’s emphasis on limiting ways shooters can draw fouls. Despite launching 58 three-pointers in the game, the Warriors struggled to get to the free-throw line.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr also commented on the free throws, expressing his desire to be on his best behavior with his mother present.
“I might comment on the free throws that they shot, but my mom is here right now and I want to be on my best behavior.”
The officiating and free throw discrepancy were notable aspects of the game, and both Curry and Kerr made their sentiments clear in addressing the situation.
