Denver Nuggets’ Aaron Gordon Among Finalists for 2024 Olympic Team
Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon has been named among the 41 finalists in the USA Basketball pool for the 2024 Olympic team. The final roster, consisting of twelve players, will be selected for the Paris Summer Games scheduled between July 26 and Aug. 11. The announcement of the ultimate roster is expected later in 2024.
Gordon, a fan favorite in Denver, has been a key player for the Nuggets since his acquisition in a blockbuster trade with the Orlando Magic in March 2021. Known for his versatility, Gordon played a crucial role in the Nuggets’ historic NBA championship win in the 2022-23 season, contributing through rim-running, solid defense, and effective off-ball play alongside MVP Nikola Jokic.
Nuggets coach Michael Malone expressed confidence in Gordon’s potential inclusion, stating, “Aaron Gordon would be a great fit for any team because he’s talented, has a great attitude, he’s tough, and he’s proven that he’s a winner. And he can win on the highest level at the biggest stage.”
Gordon, who has not represented the U.S. at the Olympics or World Cup, previously served as a junior national team member from 2010 to ’12. The 41-man list of finalists includes 28 players with prior international experience.
Other potential Olympians from the Denver Nuggets include Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Vlatko Cancar, each representing different countries. Jokic last played for Serbia’s national team at EuroBasket 2022, while Murray withdrew from Canada’s training camp for the World Cup. Despite Cancar’s ACL injury sidelining him for the current season, he remains a candidate for Slovenia at the Olympics. The final selection and participation of these players will unfold in the coming months.
