Austin Reaves Shines with 28 Points in Lakers’ Loss to Hawks
In the absence of Anthony Davis, who was sidelined due to Achilles and hip issues, Austin Reaves showcased an impressive scoring display, finishing with 28 points in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 138-122 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday.
Reaves, who has been in the starting lineup since the beginning of January, produced his best scoring effort of the season, shooting efficiently with a 10-of-19 field goal performance, including 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. The third-year guard also contributed six assists and two steals in 32 minutes of play.
Despite Reaves’ notable individual performance, the Lakers couldn’t secure the victory, with LeBron James being the only other teammate to contribute 20 or more points in the game.
Throughout the month of January, with his increased role in the starting lineup, Reaves has displayed consistent production. Over 15 games in the month, he averaged 15.5 points, 5.9 assists, 2.9 rebounds, 1.4 three-pointers, and 0.9 steals per game, while maintaining an impressive 50.6 percent shooting from the field.
As the Lakers continue to navigate through challenges, Reaves’ ability to step up in the absence of key players is becoming increasingly valuable. His well-rounded contributions, especially on the offensive end, will be crucial for the Lakers as they look to regain momentum in the competitive Western Conference.
