Concerns over Klay Thompson’s future with the Golden State Warriors are still being raised in light of his approaching free agency.
His bench switch to Golden State has probably increased people’s interest about his future in the Bay Area. However, veteran NBA writer Marc Stein thinks Thompson will ultimately work out a deal with the Warriors front office and return to the league in the summer.
Stein has revealed that the Orlando Magic are a club that is very interested in Thompson, should he want to test free agency. The seasoned shooter would probably take over as the team’s starting point guard for the steadily developing Eastern Conference squad and assume a major leadership role in the locker room’s younger members.
Until Thompson signs a contract extension or with another club, the question of his future with the Warriors will remain on the table. It makes the most sense, in Stein’s opinion, for Thomspon to stay with Golden State. The franchise has valued him too highly to allow him to go in the summer.
Even so, Thompson would inevitably attract attention from other clubs in the league. Before finally agreeing to a four-year, $100 million contract extension with the Warriors at the beginning of the summer, Draymond Green struggled with identical problems the previous season. Regardless of the attention from elsewhere, Thompson still believes it to be the most sensible course of action.
