Before the 2023–24 season, the Golden State Warriors reportedly made an offer to five-time All-Star shooting guard Klay Thompson for a two-year deal for around $48 million, according to a story published early on December 13 by NBA insider Shams Charania.
There isn’t a contract between the two parties, Charania continued.
After missing two whole seasons of play due to injuries to his knee and Achilles, Thompson has been out of the game for over three years. Despite Klay Thompson’s first-year return to the Warriors winning a title, doubts lingered about whether the talented shooter could maintain his All-NBA level of play. After all, he had two major injuries at the time and was 31 years old.
Thompson’s 2023 point average after 22 games is only 15.4, which is the lowest in his career since his freshman year. Thompson has not had a worse field goal percentage (.397), three-point percentage (.343), effective field goal percentage (.498), or offensive rating (104) in ten or more years.
Right now, the Warriors are in 11th place in the Western Conference with a record of 10-13. The Warriors would miss the postseason for only the third time in the last twelve years if the playoffs began right now.
