The Golden State Warriors’ 2023–24 NBA season has been compared to a roller coaster ride. With a record of 6 victories, 2 defeats, and a thrilling start, they quickly collapsed, losing 7 out of 9 of their subsequent games.

The Warriors won 5/8 games away from home last season, more than making up for their lackluster away performance. Their home field record is unquestionably worse, however. The fact that Stephen Curry had to miss two games due to an injured knee was one of the reasons the Warriors lost. And Draymond Green received a five-game suspension for strangling Rudy Gobert of the Timberwolves.

Additionally, the “Warriors” have lately played poorly due to the shocking downfall of Andrew Wiggins and Klay Thompson, two key members of the 2022 championship team.

Thompson only managed 15.0 points, a 40.2% shooting percentage, and a 36.7% 3-point shooting percentage in 16 games. These are the lowest standards in the four-time NBA champion’s career.


With 17 games played, Wiggins has averaged 11.8 points; his shooting % and other offensive metrics indicate that this is the lowest point in his career. It’s evident that Wiggins and Thompson are both performing below par.


Although Thompson is among the best shooters in NBA history, he can no longer throw as effectively as he once could because to two catastrophic leg injuries. As a result, his pace has significantly slowed. Regarding Wiggins, the 2014 NBA draft number one has drastically decreased from his early years of success. Wiggins has mostly handled defensive responsibilities since joining the Warriors in 2020 and has never reached his best level of play.
Despite the Warriors’ sluggish start, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson remain optimistic.

Thompson still believes he can start as shooting guard for the Warriors despite his rocky start.


“You want me to be benched, [head coach Steve Kerr]? To put Wiggins on the bench?” When questioned about Kerr’s belief in hard starts, Thompson responded angrily. “You need patience and time to find yourself, don’t forget history is on our side when it comes to those things.”

Like Thompson, Green expressed faith in Wiggins and Thompson.

They both got off to a slower start than previously. We all played a lot better, made more shots, were more aggressive, and were more decisive in the final two or three games, I believe people noticed,” remarked Green. “Klay and Wiggs are elite athletes. They demonstrated their superiority early in the competition by scoring 20 points or more almost every time they played.”
