F1 Heads to Convene Over Christian Horner Inquiry
Today, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali is slated to meet with FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem to address the ongoing developments surrounding Red Bull chief Christian Horner in Bahrain.
According to Sky Sports reports, top management from F1 and FIA will gather today to deliberate on the matter, following allegations that surfaced on Thursday when purported evidence from an investigation was circulated to various accredited journalists, F1 team principals, and senior officials via an anonymous email account.
The alleged evidence included screenshots and images from WhatsApp; however, the authenticity of the email contents remains unverified as of the time of this report.
Previously, Horner had been exonerated of any misconduct ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix following an independent inquiry into accusations of inappropriate behavior. The 50-year-old underwent questioning by an independent barrister, with the findings subsequently forwarded to Red Bull’s management in Austria for deliberation.
Having been cleared, Horner was poised to continue leading the Red Bull F1 team for the 2024 season. However, revelations emerged after the second practice session in Bahrain on Thursday, indicating the leak of alleged evidence.
Responding to the situation, Horner reiterated his denial of the allegations through a statement issued by Red Bull, stating, “I won’t comment on anonymous speculation but to reiterate, I have always denied the allegations.”
He further emphasized his cooperation with the independent investigation and remained steadfast in his focus on the forthcoming season.
“I remain fully focused on the start of the season.”
Meanwhile, Horner’s counterparts, Toto Wolff and Zak Brown, have called for “transparency,” with the Mercedes boss particularly critical of Red Bull’s statement, describing it as “basic, vague, and opaque.”
