Tuesday night marked the attendance of the 43-year-old R&B singer at Game 5 of the semifinal series between the Memphis Grizzlies and Minnesota Timberwolves. Fans were amusedly surprised to see the musician sitting courtside with Tee Morant, the father of Grizzlies star Ja Morant, who had previously noted the similarity.
Even more so, Usher and Tee matched their game attire, donning identical black t-shirts, chain necklaces, and spectacles.
Amidst a timeout, the arena’s “Lookalike Cam” segment made light of the situation.
The jumbotron displayed an image of Usher prior to Tee seated in the stands. The camera then shifted to Usher, who was seated next to him and laughing with him. The arena erupted in jubilation.
Usher attended Game 5 after an earlier this month photo of Tee that compared the two went viral. During the Grizzlies’ home game on April 16, one spectator tweeted a photo of Tee with the caption, “Not me believing Ja’s father was Usher.”
“I’m relieved I wasn’t the only one,” replied one individual. “For the past hour, I’ve been convinced that was Usher,” wrote another user on Twitter.
Later, Usher stated on Twitter, “I needed to determine the source of the hype.” In the same photo that Tee reposted of their courtside encounter, he referred to the “Yeah” singer as his twin.
The Grizzlies defeated the Timberwolves 111-109 on Tuesday night to take a 3-2 series lead.
Ja, who was recently named the NBA’s most improved player, scored 18 points in the fourth quarter, including a highlight dunk that concluded the third, and contributed to the team’s dramatic return. Thirty points, thirteen rebounds, nine assists, and three steals comprised his final stats.
After the contest, Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins remarked of the player, “He was enormous.” “He was simply sporting a smile on his countenance. “That shot was an a million-times attempt.” I instructed you to create the following one. Continue shooting and assaulting.’ This is one of the most exciting aspects of playoff basketball: you never know how you will fare. You simply continue to nibble away. Maintain your faith in it. He also had an undeniably outstanding fourth quarter.
Game 6 between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Memphis Grizzlies is scheduled for Friday at Target Center.
