Nike recently launched their newest signature sneaker on Thursday, and it sold out in a matter of minutes, so it appears that the shoe company is not breaking its distance from Ja Morant over his recent gun-flashing incident after all.
Due to the All-Star guard’s off-court problems, Nike removed all of his shoes from its website last week, casting doubt on whether the company would cancel the sale or its relationship with him entirely. As a result, the planned Ja 1 “Hunger” colorway drop appeared to be in jeopardy.
Fortunately for sneakerheads, the sneakers were still available on Nike’s SNKRS app. Those who acted quickly, however, were able to get them for $110 before they sold out, as there appeared to be an extremely limited quantity.
The shoes were obviously in high demand despite all the fuss, as evidenced by the large number of fans who took to Twitter to vent about missing the drop.
In fact, within just three seconds of the app’s launch, a fan claimed in a snapshot posted by them that their size was sold out.
Prospective customers can, of course, visit reseller websites like GOAT and StockX, but they will have to pay a little bit more than the retail price. The shoes are now retailing for about $200.
In sharp contrast to the Swoosh’s statement endorsing its player after his first incident in March, Nike has remained mute in the wake of Ja’s second video.
2019 saw Ja earn a multi-year contract with Nike, becoming the brand’s first Gen Z signature athlete.
Although it seems less probable that the company will break up like Kyrie Irving, the drop doesn’t necessarily indicate it will overlook the most recent event.
