FIA Issues Response Following Reports of Complaint Against Christian Horner’s Accuser

According to a report by the BBC, Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull Racing, has had an official complaint filed against him to the FIA by his accuser. The woman, who has been suspended by Red Bull, brought her complaint to the ethics committee of Formula 1’s governing body.

Previously, Horner was subject to an independent investigation by a lawyer following allegations against him, but he was subsequently cleared of any wrongdoing. The FIA, in response to the complaint, stated that they handle enquiries and complaints through their Compliance Officer and Ethics Committee, ensuring strict confidentiality throughout the process.

The FIA responded with a statement: “At the FIA, enquiries and complaints are received and managed by the Compliance Officer, and the Ethics Committee where appropriate. Both bodies operate autonomously, guaranteeing strict confidentiality throughout the process. As a consequence, and in general, we are unable to confirm the receipt of any specific complaint and it is unlikely that we will be able to provide further comment on the complaints that we may receive from any parties.”

The controversy surrounding Horner has cast a shadow over Red Bull’s successful start to the 2024 season on the track, with Max Verstappen winning both grands prix and Sergio Perez securing second place twice. Despite their on-track achievements, the off-track turmoil has dominated headlines.

Following the dismissal of the grievance against Horner, purported evidence from the case was leaked within the F1 paddock. Horner, however, has urged for an end to the scrutiny against him, particularly regarding his personal life, including his marriage.

Publicly supported by his wife Geri Horner and Red Bull’s majority shareholder Chalerm Yoovidhya, Horner emphasized the need to focus on the team’s racing objectives. He expressed gratitude for his family’s support amidst the intrusive scrutiny.

The situation has also sparked tensions within Red Bull, with Max Verstappen’s father Jos suggesting that Horner is “playing the victim” and should step down from his role. Speculation arose about Max’s future with the team, with rumors suggesting a potential move to Mercedes.
